This movie is about two friends who drive to Alaska. They get in a bad car accident and wake up in the dark woods, not able to remember anything that happened before that car crash. They then use their common sense and ingenuity to survive the cold, winter wilderness.The protagonist, Drew (played by Alexander Skarsgard) tells his friend George (played by Gerard Butler) that they were in India before the accident. It's shown through flashbacks from watching old family videos on a portable DVD player from an airplane on descent from Vietnam back at their homes in New York City and Connecticut. After that, Drew and George went on a road trip to Alaska during Summer 2009. George drove the car and Drew read a map, but they got lost. They got to a motel and called home for directions, but they got cut off. Then, there was a girl in the bathroom who was upset with them trying to break into her room for directions. They offered her their driver's license and credit cards to pay for the damage she had caused (a small hole in the door frame). But she told them that her parents left and they couldn't stay there. After that, Drew hit his head on the bathroom sink. The girl then tried to sleep with them for warmth, but then they woke up to find that she has left with all their money and passports. They realize that they are in Alaska. They realize through the clues in the hotel room they were in earlier, along with clues they found on their bodies (a newspaper article about a boy who died in Alaska after falling off a helicopter), that they are now lost in Alaskan wilderness. Then, George had an idea of getting supplies from Denver airport. They organize their equipment and head for Denver airport, which is highly guarded by the police; they manage to get into it by breaking into an airport warehouse. They made the stock, but the rain ruined it. After that, they were in jail in Denver with no food or money. George finally remembered his family who lives in Seattle. He tried to think about how to get them help. Drew had the idea of not giving up and getting help right away. He also had an idea to try to get their stuff back by stealing some camels from a zoo. They steal 4 camels which are meant for firewood but are actually delicious when cooked with food. After that, they head down the highway again and were chased by 4 desert wolves who are really dangerous because they can run very fast and jump very high with their powerful legs. But they manage to get away. After that, they were trapped in the desert again with no food. They had to kill a wolf for food, but Drew didn't want to do it so he let George do it for him. When Drew woke up, he heard his friend crying. They buried the wolf and George explained what happened. He explained that he killed it with his hunting knife into its heart after putting him down on the ground on its stomach putting his face into dirt so that he wouldn't get hair all over himself. After killing the wolf, they ate its meat and tried to make a spear out of wood from trees which all look alike because of how similar they are in appearance and structure.
